High-resolution ESI-MS analysis of Milli-Q water and Milli-Q water conditioned with PIC100, E-Shell200, E-Shell300, PDMS, or PS. The peaks at m/z 223.096 and 177.058 correspond to the positive mother ion and a fragment ion of diethyl phthalate, respectively (see the bottom panel for the formation principle of the fragment ion). The higher-molecular weight peaks (m/z 500–1000) represent clusters of peaks separated by m/z 44, which is a characteristic of polyethylene glycol. Blue arrows represent the reference peak at m/z 304.24 found in all samples and used here for the purpose of quantification.
