The mean values for protein content in retinas were taken from Fig. 1 and the study by Lobanova et al. (2008) and were corrected for the outer segment fraction of each protein, as described in the text. Relative light sensitivities were derived from the single-cell recordings in the studies by Lobanova et al. (2008) and Kolesnikov et al. (2011) by dividing the value of half-saturating light intensity of WT rods by the corresponding value for 1−/− rods.
