Differences in Individuals With High and Low Self-efficacy Levels, According to Theory

Individuals with high levels of self-efficacy tend to:

  • view difficult tasks as challenges to master (rather than as threats to avoid)

  • set challenging goals and stay committed to them

  • persevere when difficulties arise

  • bounce back quickly after setbacks

Whereas, individuals with low levels of self-efficacy tend to:

  • doubt their ability

  • shy away from challenges

  • not set the bar as high when choosing goals

  • show less commitment toward goals

  • give up quickly when the going gets rough

  • recover slowly from failure
