First-time AI does not induce aggravated IL1β overexpression when the host is exposed to another episode of AI later in life. Adult rats were subjected to an intrarectal injection of TNBS and received a second treatment 6 weeks later. Sham controls received normal saline. Tissue was collected 7 days after the second treatment.
