Single dose irradiation setup. For single dose irradiation, a customized aluminium block holder (a) was used. Mice were anaesthetized and placed in the central bore (a1) in a supine position (b). The mouse tongue was gently pulled through the hole on the upper side of the block (a2, c) and fixed with adhesive tape; the lower tongue surface facing the beam. A 3 × 3 mm² opening (a3) in the 1 mm thick aluminium plate (a4), which was positioned centrally over the lower tongue surface, defined the treatment field (d).
