Effect of systemic DS treatment on ulcer duration. Irradiation protocols comprised single dose irradiation or daily fractionated irradiation over one (days 0–4) or two weeks (0–4, 7–11), followed by graded top-up doses (5 dose groups, 10 animals each) on day 7 or 14, respectively. The first and the last day of daily DS administration are indicated on the abscissa. Systemic DS treatment reduced the mean ulcer duration gradually with treatment time.
