Admixed vaccine blood-brain distribution experiment. Mice were intravenously administered a 10% fentanyl in heroin bolus (i.e., 0.9 mg/ kg heroin and 0.1 mg/kg fentanyl, i.v.). (A) Concentration of drug found in the blood 15 min after administration. (B) Concentration of drug found in the brain 15 min after administration. Bars show means + SEM. Significance is denoted by an asterisk from a two-way ANOVA and a Dunnett post hoc test when comparing vaccinated groups to vaccinated controls. Only trace amounts of 6-AM were detected in sera for Fent-KLH (6 ± 6 ng/ mL, n = 5) and control (20 ± 6 ng/mL, n = 12). **P < 0.01 and ****P < 0.0001 versus control.
