Current understanding of transmission cycles of T. cruzi in the southern United States with wildlife hosts and well-characterized strain-type associations. In contrast to transmission settings across South and Central America and Mexico, in the southern United States, exclusive domestic cycles appear less important in terms of risk to target hosts than does spillover from enzootic transmission.
