Some DGCs and PDEs control the global concentration of c-di-GMP and regulate biofilm formation, motility and virulence factor production. Some DGCs and PDEs regulate c-di-GMP concentration in a localized pool and also function via direct interaction with effectors, such as transcription factors (TF). Although these DGCs and PDEs do not change global c-di-GMP concentration, they have a significant impact on bacterial phenotypes.
