National Plan of Action to Prevent Child Marriages in India, 2012

Goal: Girls and boys in India are free from child marriage and can realize their full potential and live a life of dignity.
Approach: Strategic convergent and multi-dimensional initiatives:
• Enforce Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006 and related laws and policies that can discourage child marriage.
• Improve access to quality education and other vocational opportunities.
• Initiate programs that enable community mobilization and outreach to change social norms and attitudes.
• Build skills and capacities of adolescent girls and boys.
• Collect data, initiate research to inform programming and interventions.
• Develop monitoring and evaluation systems for measuring outcomes.
• Improve co-ordination, communication and monitoring among those involved in the implementation.
