Comparison of persiter cell formation between liquid and colony–biofilm cultures in three E. coli strains with eight antibiotics. Three strains (MG1655, W3110, and BW25113) and eight antibiotics (amp, amo, str, kan, tet, cam, ofl, and nor; concentration given in Materials and Methods) were used. Data on the incidence of persister cells (% survival) are presented as means and S.D. (∗t-test: P < 0.05, n = 5; ∗∗∗t-test: P < 0.005, n = 5).
