Total DNA was extracted from sequential 40 µm horizontal sections of 6mm punch biopsies of from four healthy (A) and five footrot (B) affected tissue samples. Quantitative PCR was used to enumerate total bacterial DNA end detect the presence or absence of D. nodosus and F. necrophorum. Sections were grouped in 200 µm bins.
