(A, B) Representative immunofluorescence images of whole brain showing apoptotic/necrotic cell death (green) by TUNEL staining in α2-antiplasmin supplemented MMP-9+/+ and MMP-9−/− mice. In low power images of brain slice, TUNEL-positive cell staining was largely restricted to the ischemic hemisphere (C, D) 20X magnification images (Scale bar =100 μm) showing TUNEL positive (green) cells and DAPI stained blue nuclei in the ischemic hemisphere vs. only blue nuclei in the non-ischemic hemisphere.
