a) Histomorphometry on von Kossa and van Gieson-stained slides shows that there is a statistically significant increase in osteoid surface/bone surface (OS/BS) and osteoid volume/bone volume (OV/BV) in Phospho1-/- fractured bone sections; b) analysis of toluidine blue-stained sections showed a significant increase in the osteoblast count and surface area in Phospho1-/- fracture sites; c) analysis of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase-stained sections showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the osteoclast count between the two groups (N.Ob, number of osteoblasts; T.Ar, tissue area; Ob.s, osteoblast surface; N.Oc, number of osteoclasts; Oc.s, osteoclast surface).
