Characteristic reporter ions used to classify precursors as ellagitannins: (a) 2,2′,3,3′,4,4′-hexahydroxybiphenyl, (b) 3,4,8,9,10-pentahydroxydibenzo[b,d]pyran-6-one, (c) ellagic acid; CID MS² spectra for: (d) castalagin, (e) vescalagin, and (f) the CID MS³ spectrum of the isolated 457 product ion from vescalagin. Blue, red, and green dot graphics above the 249, 275, and 301 reporter ions were added for improved contrast of the relative intensities in product ion spectra.
