HEK293 cells treated with blank (a, e, i, m), 10 μM aristolochic acid (AA) (b, f, j, n), 10 μM cyclosporine A (CsA) (c, g, k, o), and 10 μM cisplatin (CDDP) (d, h, l, p) are shown. Decreased intensity of rhodamine 123 indicates decreased mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) (f, g, h). Increased intensity of MitoTracker Deep Red FM indicates increased mitochondrial mass (MS) (j, k, l). The number of cells stained by Hoechst 33342 was decreased by all three drugs (n, o, p).
