Dynamic dissection of the acute stress response. Conceptual framework for the use of inescapable acute stress (FS stress protocol) to identify different trajectories of resilient versus vulnerable stress response. The readouts are assessed 24 h after start of the stress protocol (40 min). Readouts used are: (i) synaptic plasticity and/or transmission [spontaneous and evoked release of glutamate; spontaneous and evoked excitatory transmission; synaptic plasticity, long-term potentiation (LTP), and/or long-term depression (LTD)]; (ii) neuroarchitectural changes (length and branching of apical dendrites; number of spine synapses); and (iii) behavioral phenotype (SI test for anhedonia; cognitive tests).
