Role of CTD of RelSau in E. coli. rel from S. aureus with and without CTD, hydrolase or synthetase domain (A) were expressed in relA/spoT mutant of E. coli MG1655. The black crosses (A) represent mutations as indicated in Fig 1A. As controls WT and relA/spoT mutant were transformed with empty vector (B and C). Strains were grown under stringent conditions streaked on M9 agar plates (C) or M9 medium for growth analysis (D). Under these conditions the relA/spoT mutant was unable to grow.
