Retrograde motor neuron labeling along CMAP recordings.

Lipophilic carbocyanine dyes (e.g. DiO, DiI and DiD) are used to label motor neurons in the facial nerve nucleus from the whisker pad for rats, whereas cholera toxin B subunit is used for mice.
