Products in bold were correctly labeled. 1Sample name with subscripts that code for type of product. For GYO kits (AL-M#), “cd” is for “colonized dowel,” “sd” is for “sawdust spawn,” and “sy” is for “syringe spawn.” For manufactured products (AL-R#), “ca” is for “capsule,” “po” is for “powder,” “ta” is for “tablet,” “co” is for “coffee,” and “te” is for “tea.” 2Products were either grow-your-own (GYO) reishi kits sold by mushroom cultivation companies in the United States or manufactured products, which were easily purchased online as capsules, powders, tablet, coffee, or tea. 3Product labels were the Ganoderma or relevant taxa that were written on the ingredients or nutritional label(s). If not present on label then product labels are coded as “unknown.” 4Taxon identified was based on Sanger sequencing with ITS and tefla for GYO reishi kits and ITS only for manufactured reishi products. If labeled with FAILED, then the reaction did not work. Subscripts indicate information about each product. For the GYO kits (AL-M#) “ch” is for “chlamydospores present.” For manufactured products “cu” is for “culture,” “ifb” is for “immature basidiomata,” “mfb” if for “mature basidiomata,” “sp” is for “only spores,” and “nd” is for “nothing detected.” 5Presumably, this product meant to have G. tsugae not G. tsugai.
