Quenching of NicA2 activity in blood in vitro by MeOH. MeOH was added in vitro to blood containing 40 ng/ml nicotine before or after adding NicA2. Prior addition of MeOH completely quenched NicA2 activity (no difference from BSA control). In contrast, adding MeOH after an approximately 10 s exposure of nicotine to NicA2 in vitro allowed degradation of nicotine to below the limit of assay detection. *** p < 0.001 using two-tailed unpaired t tests with Welch’s correction.
