Photoinducible Cre–lox system. In this system, Cre activity is controlled by fusion to a modified fragment of the estrogen receptor (ERT2), which sequesters Cre outside of the nucleus where it cannot perform recombination. In the presence of an estrogen receptor antagonist, Cre enters the nucleus where it mediates recombination.
