Patient, procedural and outcome data were collected from patients undergoing CABG surgery and/or valve surgery at any of the participating hospitals were prospectively enrolled into the NNE Biomarker Study from 2004 to 2007 (N=1690). Those undergoing isolated CABG (n=1421) and CABG incidental to heart valve repair or replacement were included in the analyses (n=133). We excluded patients with missing biomarker data (n=136). The final cohort included 1554 patients. (CABG indicates coronary artery bypass grafting; NNE, Northern New England).
