Scheuer staging system was used to determine the stage of hepatic fibrosis54. Stage 0, no fibrosis and normal amount of connective tissue; Stage 1, enlarged, fibrotic portal tracts; Stage 2, periportal or portal-portal septa, but intact architecture; Stage 3, bridging fibrosis with architectural distortion, but no obvious cirrhosis; Stage 4, probable or definite cirrhosis.
