Values are the means (±SEM) of 10 animals in each group. All values were computed in ten random, non-coincident fields per rat. Inflammatory cells, edema, cytokines and caspase 3 are expressed as the number occupied by area/1 mm². Collagen fibers are expressed as the occupied volume/mm³. The control group received saline (50 μL). In the Suppl and IA/Suppl groups, rats received 300 μl of Col V (500 μg) diluted in acetic acid (0.01 N) daily (Suppl) and at 30 days (IA/Suppl) via gavage.
