Tobacco leaves were agroinfiltrated with GFP fused to the N-terminal region (100 amino acids) of the Arabidopsis mTERF22 (At5g64950) protein (see ‘Materials and Methods). GFP alone and GFP fused to the N-terminal region (54 amino acids) of ATP synthase b-subunit were used as controls for the integrity of the GFP localizations assays (see ‘Materials and Methods and S3 Fig). The GFP signals (green, upper left), MitoTracker marker (red, upper right), chlorophyll autofluorescence (blue, lower left) and merged images (lower right), are outlined in each panel.
