Composome emergence in the Universe-GARD (U-GARD) variant model of GARD [86]. Design is as in figure 3d. Assemblies undergo growth–fission cycles in the inner environment, obeying the GARD dynamics. Compound types exchange between the inner and larger outer environment (inset). The simulation shows ongoing emergence of new composomes along the time axis. This dynamics is consistent with open-ended evolution in the time interval simulated, as contrasted with the more standard GARD behaviour with a limited number of composomes that repeatedly appear.
