The pump pulse generates the excited state of encapsulated squaraine molecules (SQ_e*). TA measurements probing directly at the SQ_e* energy track the total excited state decay of SQ_e* by radiative and non-radiative decay (k_r + k_nr) or energy transfer to SWCNTs (k_EET). Arrival of excitons in SWCNTs via energy transfer is probed either by TA or PLE measurements at the energy of the first exciton, S₁₁*.
