Fig. 2 — Efficiency of separate extraction of DNA and RNA when compared to total nucleic acid extraction using QIAamp® MinElute® Virus Spin kit. DNA and RNA were extracted separately and compared to the total nucleic acid extracted using the QIAamp® MinElute® Virus Spin kit, using qPCR. RNA extraction using the Qiagen RNeasy® Mini kit did not enhance the detection of the two single-stranded RNA viruses (FeLV and RSV), whereas the RNase A digestion added to the Wako DNA Extractor® kit greatly enriched for double-stranded nucleic acid (EBV and Reo3)
