—Exemplar chromosomes harboring α-tubulin from diverse ciliates highlights the unusual ciliate genome architecture. Telomere sequences bound complete ciliate chromosomes, with nonprotein coding regions found in gray, and α-tubulin in blue (orientation of the coding sequence is noted by arrows). For Entodinium caudatum, we found a single nanochromosome with two divergent α-tubulin genes which are noted by differences in the shade of blue. Black scale bar represents 1 kb.
