Expression of ABUW_0982 in E. coli is sufficient for chloramphenicol resistance. For evaluation of E. coli susceptibility to chloramphenicol, E. coli MG1655 was engineered to express ABUW_0982 under the control of an IPTG-inducible promoter. E. coli expressing pEmpty or p0982 was grown in 2× serial dilutions of chloramphenicol in the presence of IPTG (1 mM). The OD₆₀₀ was measured after 22 h of growth at 37°C with shaking. Note that E. coli expressing ABUW_0982 gained the ability to grow at higher concentrations of chloramphenicol.
