The figure above portrays the influenza vaccine dosing algorithm for children aged 6 months through 8 years recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for the 2018–19 influenza season in the United States. If the child has received 2 or more doses of trivalent or quadrivalent influenza vaccine before July 1, 2018 (doses need not have been given during same or consecutive seasons), the child should receive 1 dose of 2018–19 influenza vaccine. If the child has not received 2 or more doses of trivalent or quadrivalent influenza vaccine before July 1, 2018, or if it is not known whether the child has received vaccine, the child should receive 2 doses of 2018–19 influenza vaccine (administered 4 or more weeks apart).
