a

Different letters in the Subject list corresponding to different infants. For an infant who received multiple transfusions, a numeric value is added after a subject’s letter ID to denote different transfusions (e.g. A1 and A2 corresponding to NIRS data from the first and second transfusion from subject A).

b

The p-value of the pre- to post-transfusion change was derived from the t-test.

c

The p-value of the pre- to post-transfusion change was derived from the MI nested permutation test.
