Phytophthora infestans effector Pi22926 tagged with monomeric red fluorescent protein (Pi22926-mRFP) was translocated from the pathogen haustoria to the host nucleus and nucleolus. Red fluorescence was observed in the nucleolus and nucleoplasm, indicating that Pi22926 fusion proteins have translocated from haustoria into the host cells.
