Quantification of total bacteria abundance in colon feces of sham and obstruction (OB) rats. Total viable bacteria (anaerobic and aerobic) in fresh colon feces were quantified by plating serial dilutions on GAM agar (for anaerobic bacteria) and Tryptic soy agar (for aerobic). The total CFU of bacteria/gram sample is shown in (A) (Sham, n = 5; OB, n = 6). The 16S rRNA copy numbers in colon feces was calculated by RT-PCR and data is presented as total 16S rRNA copy numbers/mg sample ± standard deviation (B) (sham, n = 7; OB, n = 5). p > 0.05 vs. sham (unpaired t-test).
