(A): Surface pressure (π)/area isotherms of human meibum (MGS) films, intact and with different degrees of catalytic saturation; (B): The dependence of maximum surface pressure (πmax) achieved at minimal surface area (at the completion of compression) on the degree of acyl chain catalytic saturation in MGS films. The higher the molecular packing density at the interface is, the higher πmax is; higher cohesion between the lipid tails is thought to strengthen molecular packing (see Section 3 for details).
