Figure 8. — Graphic summary. When AOAH is present, commensal LPS is inactivated and lung epithelial cells remain sensitized for allergen stimulation. When AOAH is missing, commensal LPS cannot be inactivated and excessive amount of bioactive LPS is present in the gut. LPS translocates and reaches the lung via circulation, desensitizing epithelial cells. Allergic responses are diminished.
