Hepatic GJB1 expression tracks with components of NAS activity score and fibrosis. Expression of GJB1, the gene that encodes for connexin 32, from liver biopsies taken from each patient in our NAFLD cohort was determined by real‐time quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Statistical testing for significance was performed using analysis of variance to determine the relationship between hepatic GJB1 and (A) NAS, (B) steatosis, (C) inflammation, (D) ballooning, and (E) fibrosis score.
