Figure 4.

Figure 4

Alterations in Kupffer cell populations and changes in serum CD26/DPP‐4 activity after chronic liver injury. (A,B) Chronic liver injury was induced by CCl4 in C57BL/6, leading to evident inflammation and fibrosis at 24 hours and fibrosis regression and fibrosis resolution by 72 hours and 144 hours, respectively. (C) Serum CD26/DPP‐4 enzymatic activity was determined at 24 hours, 72 hours, and 144 hours after treatment and superimposed on (D) the proportion of KCs and (E) the proportion of liver Ly6c+ cells at the same time points. Arbitrary units represent the rate of substrate decay during the enzymatic assay normalized to the average value of the controls. Necrotic lesions are identified by "n" and delineated by a dotted line. Scale bar, 100 µm. Mean values are depicted, and error bars indicate SD. *P <0.05 in unpaired t test. Plots depict cumulative data from a minimum of three independent experiments, n = 6‐8 mice per group. Abbreviations: A.U., arbitrary units; H&E, hematoxylin and eosin; inflam, inflammation; i.p., intraperitoneal; Reg, regression; Resol, resolution; v, volume.
