A Markov modeling framework for type 1 and type 2 diabetes disease progression. The population includes adult type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients who are on two distinct treatment paths. An example one year cycle has patients starting at no complications and moving into microvascular disease states (eg, retinopathy, neuropathy, and nephropathy) or macrovascular disease states (eg, myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, ischemic heart disease, and stroke). Patients can die from all cause death or complication-related death.
