Data are presented as percentages or number of cells per collecting duct and are expressed as mean proportion ± SE of the proportion. CD, collecting duct. With the use of mages collected from the terminal inner medullary (IM) region, cells that expressed only aquaporin-4 (AQP4), only vacuolar H+-ATPase (V-ATPase), or both AQP4 and V-ATPase were analyzed using the functionally equivalent “multipointer” or “cell counter” plugins in ImageJ software. Arcsine-transformed data were subjected to a Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test.
