A simple mathematical model of the N. crassa circadian clock. WCC (W) promotes the transcription of frq mRNA (Fm), which is then translated into FRQ protein (Fp). FRQ binds to WCC, forming an inactive heterodimer, WCC:FRQ (W:Fp). Via this heterodimerization, FRQ inhibits its own transcription and closes a transcriptional negative feedback loop.
