VP5 glutamic acid residues support HSV-1 propagation. Single-step replication kinetics of HSV-1 WT, VP5 glutamic acid mutant (EE>AA), and VP5 repair in Vero cells are shown following infection at an MOI of 10. Cells (solid lines) and supernatants (dashed lines) were collected at the indicated times, and titers were determined by plaque assay on Vero cells.
