Participants walked on a split-belt treadmill at their self-selected speed (belts tied at the same speed). Two servomotor systems were used to drive a cable spool, with the cables connected to the waist belt on the fall arrest harness. An example perturbation timing for a subject is displayed along with the COM position and velocity for that cycle. Perturbation timings were based upon time between successive heel strike events, with perturbation magnitude determined by the participant’s body weight.
