From top to bottom: SEM cross sections, coating layer thickness, and number distribution by particle size for the bottom, middle, and top layers of the particulate assemblies formed under different drying conditions (temperatures). In all cases, the initial volume fraction of LPs was the same (same number of particles). For simplicity and comparison purposes, the particles were divided into 2 bins or fractions, namely, colloidal (<300 nm) and “settling” particles (>800 nm). The layer thickness (out-of-plane direction) was divided into three equidistant zones, bottom, middle, and top, identified with different colors as a guide to the eyes.
