Muscles of Snell dwarf mice exhibited a high number of small muscle fibers although exposure to plantarflexion SSC training exaggerated this phenotype in GTN muscles (a–c). Following such training, TA muscle fibers atrophied with no indication of increasing in number regardless of mouse genotype (d–f). A total number of muscle fibers were determined per muscle section.
