Effect of Carved on photomicrographs of liver sections stained with H&E. Sections of (C,D) CCl₄ intoxicated group show collagen fibers deposition in the portal triad [c], vacuolar degeneration of hepatocytes [v], appearance of newly formed bile ductuoles [b] (arrows), as compared to those of (A,B) normal group. Sections of (E,F) Carved treated group show fine strands of fibroblasts proliferation and instead to prevent repitition [f], Kupffer cells activation and few leucocytes in the portal triad [k] (arrows). Statistical analysis was carried out using non-parametric Mann Whitney U test between CCl₄ and CCl₄ + Carved (#), P < 0.05. Carved treatment (10 mg/kg, p.o, daily) started 2 weeks post CCl₄ (2 ml/kg, i.p) initiation until week 8. Fibrosis score was evaluated in ten randomly selected fields from each slide.
