(B,C) Iba-1-labeled microglial processes are pseudo-colored blue and axonal swellings, as identified using common ultrastructural features observed previously following diffuse TBI, are pseudo-colored yellow for clarity. The majority of microglial processes found interacting with axonal swellings (X) 1 day post-injury appeared as immune-labeled puncta adjacent to the axonal swelling.
