Typically, the common peroneal nerve runs obliquely along the lateral side of the biceps femoris muscle and then superficial to the lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle. BFM = biceps femoris muscle, CPN = common peroneal nerve, LGCM = lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle, MGCM = medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle, SMBM = semimembranosus muscle, TN = tibial nerve.
