Top panel: Gp2.5 (yellow) binds single-stranded regions of two partner DNA molecules and promotes their homologous base pairing to form a stable hybrid molecule. Middle panel: The helicase hexamer (dark gray) binds to the 5’-single-stranded tail, translocates in a 5’-3’ direction, and unwinds duplex DNA. Bottom panel: ssDNA formed behind the moving helicase anneals to the complementary strand on the circle as it is unwound.
